OCZ Improves Core SSD Range Capacity And Performance

OCZ Improves Core SSD Range Capacity And Performance

Memory Specialist and SSD maker OCZ has announced that it has upgraded its Core Series Solid State disks only a few weeks after the original Core devices were announced.

The California-based tech firm says the new versions will be available in 30GB, 60GB, 120GB and 250GB sizes offering read and write speeds of 170Mbps and 98Mbps respectively; at this rate, it will only be a matter of time until the TB barrier is smashed by Solid State Devices.

Read and write speeds have been improved markedly and so has been the seek time which has been trimmed to 200ns.

One new feature on Core v2 is the addition of a mini-USB port which will allow the devices' firmware to be updated easily.

The previous OCZ Core devices dragged prices down to an all time low, with 128GB models costing USD 479, but no prices have been announced for the new versions.

The RAID-capable Core SSD will also benefit from a two year warranty with a mean time before failure estimated at 1.5 million hours.
